Explore Valladolid from Cancun by car

Valladolid is a fun city full of history from the Spanish colonial era. But also has a lot of local Maya culture sprinkled in everywhere. You'll find a well preserved Spanish church and square. Surrounded by many Spanish era buildings. But also the Chocolate museum where you can learn and taste how Maya's did it ages ago. The city center is full of colorful streets and restaurants to explore.

Fuel along the way

The more rural towns along the route often do not provide premium fuel, or not reliably. Plan accordingly and make sure you fuel up before you leave Cancun and Valladolid. Diesel and regular gasoline is commonly available on most towns.

Police checkpoints

Along the way you'll encounter several active police checkpoints. Most notably at the Yucatan border and some in larger towns in Yucatan. In general these are just a show of force. Slow down and stop where indicated and keep your distance from other road users. Give the police time to do their thing.

If you're stopped, act casual and friendly and if asked tell them which city you're coming from that day and where you're headed to at the moment. Nothing more or less, unless specifically asked. Yes it's a waste of your time.
